Tumwater, WA

Yesterday totally sucked around the campground.  Tira and I went shopping, in the heat and came back to a nightmare.  We’re camped on a lake and despite Covid running wild, there were HUNDREDS of drunk army guys on the beach cooking, playing, drinking…  It wasn’t as bad as the previous day, Saturday, but Sunday was ridiculous too.  In fact if you want the truth it was embarrassing to see and to realize that these folks (and their poorly behaved and equally intoxicated guests) were responsible for the defense of the country.  And yes, I’m being a lot judgmental, but yes, it was that bad.

So anyway, back to today…   We had a nice breakfast and headed out to do some geocaching and to walk the falls trail in Tumwater.  We started at the Capitol in Olympia where I had to get a geocache and we spent a half hour walking around the front (South side) and viewing Tivoli Fountain and the POW memorial…. (and finding my geocache, LOL)

From there we headed to Brewery Park in Tumwater.  So named because the old Olympia Brewery still stands near the lower falls.  It was built in 1906 but the Olympia Brewing Co is no longer in business.  The name was purchased many times over the years until 2021 when Pabst (who bought it in 2014) decided to stop production under that name.

The walk is a nice half mile or so loop (longer from parking) and along the way you can view fish ladders, 3 falls, the old brewery, and of course the Deschutes River.  Absolutely a blast.  Again, I’ve wanted to visit here for years and it took Tira to make me drive down for the walk.  🙂

It was still pretty hot, 92°, and I wasn’t feeling very well.  We figured it was the heat maybe, or maybe not?  Despite that we drove a loop back along the Yelm Highway and stopped at the Humble Cow for ice-cream, and of course a nearby geocache.
