July

We did 4th of July down the street w/ some neighbors.  Very nice people, with nice friends.  I think I like it here.

LV is the only city I’ve ever lived in where it is legal to shoot off fireworks  in the street.  We think it might be a defensive position on the part of the city.  If you light something on fire in the city we put it out.  If you leave the city and light the brush on fire it burns for like  a year or something.

Melanie is taking driver’s ed.  She started a few days ago.  It’s a regular school class so what that means is she’s taking summer school.  She took some school over the summer last year too, because she wanted to.  This time she doesn’t want to “waste” a perfectly good school period on driver’s ed, when she could be taking math or science or something interesting.

Heather leaves in a month or so and it’s killing me.

This weekend we plan to drive to CA (cali, as it’s known locally…  cali…) for Heather’s birthday.  It’s not every day my first born turns 18 and it was her wish to swim in the Pacific Ocean.  Who am I to say no?  I mean she might have asked for a car or something and I couldn’t deny her, she has no idea the power she wields over me…  but a trip to the coast?  Yup, sure, I can handle that.  We’ll be just north of LA at Port Hueneme Naval Station, which is just north of Point Mugu on the CA coast.

Getting brakes on the Grand Caravan today, I hope nothing else is broken.  The van has like 75,000 original miles, I wonder if those were original brakes???

Did I mention it hasn’t been under 106 degrees since the family arrived early June?  We’re supposed to get some rain Saturday.  Nice, 100+ and rain…  I wonder if that means higher humidity?

I’ve now got 2 flat tires in the truck and my bicycle tire went flat last night.  Nicholas and I were tearing up the neighborhood.  We went up a dirt/gravel area and I told him this was off limits without me, (construction zone and garbage and ???) and sure enough my bike tire went flat.  Must have hit a nail or something?

Lost all brakes on the mini van too, did I already mention that?  Should only cost 150 or so to fix them.  We’ll find out for sure when the bill comes in tomorrow.

Did I mention my boss hates me and work is hell?

I talked to Ken today and he and Elizabeth are making plans.  I’m a little jealous… I have no plans.  It’s easier not to look too far ahead because stuff like no brakes on your car will really screw up your nice plans.

See the new GI Bill law that was signed into law by the president on the 4th of July?????
I LIKE IT!
I’ve been in the USAF for over 25 years and I have (had) no, none, zero educational benefits.   Well, after all these years they’ve finally pushed through a bill that allows me, (us, thousands of  us) to have the opportunity to get out of the service and go back to school.  If we want.  And I like that, you have no idea how much.

Got my first electric bill, looks like it’ll be close to 400 a month during the hot season.  Dang it.

My kids have pictures and I’ll post ’em when they share ’em.

take care, happy post 4th of July,
