Feb 2009

Haven’t posted for a couple of weeks because we’ve been busy.

Weather:  Nice…  sure we got some rain, and it snowed just a little, mostly higher up in the mountains surrounding Las Vegas… but down here not so bad.  Today?  68 and sunny.  Tomorrow?  68 and sunny.  Sunday?  69 and sunny.

Kids:  GREAT!!!  I love my kids!  Nicholas is Senior Patrol Leader and runs/manages/leads a group of 20 to 30 kids every week.  This week he’s planning the camping trip we’re going on this weekend.  It’s a backpacking trip to Lovell Canyon, or Anniversary Mine, or Anniversary Wash…  call it what you will.  The more astute readers will recall that I went there on my own about 7 or 8 months ago and if you look back or search for Lovell, you’ll find pictures.

Melanie…  well I don’t know about Mel.  She went skiing last weekend, and will have friends over this weekend while Nic and I are gone.  She doesn’t have a driver’s lisence yet but will pretty soon.  She’s getting straight A’s at school (mostly).  Last week  she got her ASVAB  scores back.  Normally only people entering the military take the ASVAB, I did (twice) but hey, I’m in the military.  Anyway,  her scores were in the top 99% of the nation.  That’s all well and good…. she’s not going into the military….  not sure why she took the test.

Oh, did I mention that I scored higher than her?????  🙂   Again???????

Tira is still working as an elementary teacher.  She’s worked through some of those new things, like when other teachers ask her if she’s a “real teacher”.  See, the deal is, substiture teachers don’t require a degree, and playground aides don’t require a degree, and lunch lady jobs don’t require a degree, and ….  so the “only” people in the school w/ degrees are “real teachers”.  So this bitch says to Tira in the middle of some school training/teacher thingy “but you aren’t a real teacher, are you?”…  so Tira took a deep breath and DIDN’T pop a cap in her ass and politely explained that YES, in fact she is a real teacher and is lisenced to teach in nearly a dozen states, and is probably better educated and better trained than the bitch.  Certainly she has better manners.  Tira was offered a contract for next year and accepted the offer.  She wants to transfer to a schoo closer to home but we’ll see if that works or not.  Her drive now is over half an hour.  I’d really like to see her closer to home.  Right now she works at an “inner city” school.  Students in her classes are homeless, often uneducated, and often immigrants.

MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND, MELANIE DOESN’T HAVE A BOY FRIEND,

She dumped him.

Kenny (uncle Kenny to some) went into the Hospital in Anchorage Alaska on Friday due to a blood clot in his leg.   The special cardiovascular unit there was able to dissolve the blood clot in his leg and save the leg.  Both good things in my book of good things.  Welcome home Ken.

I hope everyone is enjoying a special new-year, and that all your investments aren’t in technical stocks.  Happy February.

  1. All very true about the asking me if I was a “Real” teacher. First what popped into my head was……”I’m a REAL boy” which is why I didn’t…what was Scott said…..pop a cap in her ass. hehe. Anyway. I did talk to her, but since I am not as rude as her I didn’t do it in front of everyone else. However, my Principal turned to her too during the training and said. “Yes, she is and she is Highly Qualified, I wouldn’t have her here if she wasn’t.” That made me feel good.

    It’s interesting working there. 🙂

  2. Nice to know Tira has good manners – and obviously so does Melanie for dumping the guy, besides she is too young for such a thing. I’ve been thinking about y’all a lot lately and looking forward to maybe seeing you this spring.

  3. and my scores were not in the top 99% of the nation, my scores were in the top 1%, as in i scored HIGHER than 99% of the nation.
(there is no 100%……you can’t score higher than yourself)
