Our Summer Vacation, 2017

Day -0.

I thought I’d revive this old blog to record our summer vacation trip.  Tira and I are driving north through NV into Idaho, and then cutting across to OR around Boise.  Then we’ll travel north to the Columbia River and follow it towards the coast before heading north to Olympia on I-5.

In Olympia we’ll visit family…. parents, children and siblings…. and then after the 4th of July we drive to the coast proper, and get on 101 which we stay on all the way in to CA.  In California we make it down to Redwood Valley, just north of Sacramento, and head east across I-5 and up/over to Reno NV.  From there, it’s a straight shot south and home, to Vegas.

So it’s day -zero.  We’re packed (mostly) and ready to go.  In the morning we just need to grab tooth brushes, the dog, some pillows off the bed and a cup of coffee before we hit the road.  The target for this day is Ely NV.  It’s 250 miles or so, and some 6 or 7 hours.  I plan to stay SW of Ely at Cave Lake State Park.  It looks like a beautiful area but unfortunately it’s at 7,000′ up, and they’re calling for snow.

Yup.   Snow.

The temperature will drop from 100+ two days ago, to 28 tomorrow night.   WoW!!

Here are my goals for the journey:
1) Relax and have fun
2) Sight-see
3) Arrive save and sound in WA, and then home to NV.
4) Take at least one picture every day, and post here.

Along the way we plan to visit covered bridges and other scenic and historical sights, the Pacific Ocean, and numerous geocaches.  I hope to find quiet, solitude, and yes… numerous geocaches.
