Stay Home For Nevada

Well, it’s been just about a year since I last posted here. I was looking back with fondness at the pictures from a year ago. It was a great trip.

Last year I left home before spring break, and made it up to Reno. Then when spring break started, Tira flew up and joined me. This year, because of the Carona Virus and Covid-19, we are all staying at home. Tira has been out of school for just about a month now, since they closed the schools due the outbreak. Nicholas lost his job temporarily due to the virus too, and is at home with us. I’m not used to being around the house with so many other people.

Even though she’s home Tira has been teaching of course, the best she can, by making use of online resources and reaching out to the kids every day. But of course it’s just not the same as being with them in a classroom. Her biggest problem is actually connecting with the kids. At least half of her class of about 16 either has no internet access or has it but can’t use it. Remember, these are 7 year olds. So everything she does has to go through the parents. Tira tells them what they should work on with their child, and then they report back. It’s absolutely not ideal. The higher grades have it easier, at least the students there can read assignments on their own!

With a little extra time on my hands I’ll maybe go back and load some old pictures or something.

But we’re all safe here, waiting and hoping things get better.
Stay safe!!
