HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I’m posting a few days after Thanksgiving because we just got home from our first annual Thanksgiving Campout.

Heather is gone, (miss you H.) so we thought we’d do something different… you know… something fun! 🙂 ok, just kidding, Heather.

But regardless, we went camping!

We headed south to Big Bend State Rec Area. It’s a NV state park w/ hookups and spots for campers/RV’s. I highly recommend this area. We’re close to Laughlin, we’re right on (near) the Colorado River, and the spots were modern and can accommodate anything that rolls down the highway.

The day we arrived and the next day, Thanksgiving, it rained and rained. In fact, back home in Las Vegas they set a record by getting .5 inches over the holiday; and that is out of a total of 1.5 for the year!!

We made a Thanksgiving dinner over the fire. Tira cooked a turkey breast in the dutch oven, and we had 7-up potatoes and green beans and gravy. I have to tell you it was OUTSTANDING! We came home Saturday and on Sunday Tira made a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner w/ a full turkey and scallop potatoes and green bean casserole and cranberry sauce and well, everything. But was it better? I don’t know, they were both great.

I’ve taken a few pictures. Duh. The water pictures are the Colorado River, just down from the Davis Dam.

  1. That water was the coldest water I ever swam in, that i remember. And Dad left out the best part. The weekend was incredible!! he makes it sound so drab, so I figured I’d elaborate. Although it rained most of the time, we had a blast. We got to sit inside and play board games, watch the Macy’s thanksgiving’s day parade, and just kill time. How often do you get to do that? The area isn’t much different from Las Vegas, but with the rain clouds and fog, it seemed as if we were in a completely different part of the country. Even though I didn’t eat any turkey, I still had an awesome dinner. the potatoes were awesome, the green beans were as good as they can get out of the can, and i stuffed myself silly. From the look of the rest of the family, I wasn’t alone. We watched a different movie every night, and Nicholas fell asleep during every one of them. Dad fell asleep during one, and I had to shove him off my bed and get him in his own. Mom wasn’t awake for much of the movies either. the only movie i fell asleep in was The Lord of the Rings, and that movie is so long I don’t know how you can’t fall asleep. So not only was the weekend fun, it was incredible, and I will definitely remember it.

  2. Thank you so much for saying that Melanie. I’m glad you have a wonderful memory. I sure love you . 🙂

  3. Yeah, yeah, me too……just ignore that snoring noise coming from me. I was just clearing my throat.
    hehehehe
