HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ALL OF US

We want to wish everyone a very happy year.  May your wishes all come true, whether you wish them to or not.

This year Larry and Charon celebrated New Years with us.  Two years in a row we’ve had guests, and the only 2 years of our marriage!  (last year it was Brandon)  So anyway, we stayed up until midnight and as always, stood outside in the cold acting the fool.  Of course cold is relative!  Last year in ND it was below zero I think.  This year, it was a chilly 40 or so!

We’ve always done this, at least Tira and I have for a great many years.  It has not always been the norm for our neighbors, however.  I remember in Japan one year we were the only ones outside yelling and honking.  We looked around and it was like a ghost town.  This year, we’re in a big city that already doesn’t sleep, and they had fireworks and celebrations and parties all over town.  They expected something like 300,000 people down on the strip to bring in the new year.  But one thing that hasn’t changed for us is the new year photo.  For the last 4 years I’ve been posting them to the web pages.  If you look you can see the 2005 picture somewhere.  If you find it, take a look at how much the kids have grown!  If you’re really looking, you can find pictures back 11 years on this web site, and rumor has it somewhere there is a picture taken in 1979 somewhere.  (And it was a christmas picture also!!)

But anyway, without futher ado… the infamous Alvar New Years Photo!

And yes, in the immortal words of Col Sherman Potter; “Here’s to the new year. May she be a damn sight better than the old one, and may we may we all be home before she’s over.”

I thought I’d put up the full quote this year, it’s traditional you know for me to quote at least a part of that line.  MASH fans the world over are posting these very same words to their family blogs too.  The quote is from the show titled “A War For All Seasons” and it aired on Dec 29, 1980.

I have to add however, that our year has been so great, I can’t imagine it getting any better.  Of course I’ve said or thought that just about every year so I’m not really a good judge…  🙂

  1. I do like the choice of the Camp Wilderness t-shirt. It’s almost like free advertising for the camp!

  2. Hey, good thinking. I wonder if I could get them to pay me a commission or something. Of course I was a little drunk, I hope that doesn’t detract from my earning potential!

  3. do you see how tall heather is?!? i didn’t realize… i think she’s grown since she left. she’s like a whole real grown up grownup person.
